More than 80 participants from all over Europe participated to the 3rd European Rural Mobility Network (ERMN) Meeting of the SMARTA-NET project, held online the 31st January 2024.

The large number of participants highlighted the importance of rural mobility in the existing urban planning. The integration of rural transport in the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs), and the inclusion of the rural dimension in regional, national, and European planning policies on mobility and tourism, are some of the topics discussed during the event. Concerning that point, the project partner TIS presented the Guidance on the integration of the rural dimension in the existing Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) during the meeting. The Guidance is still under development.

During different thematic workshop sessions participants had the opportunity to reflect and discuss about existing challenges related to the planning of rural mobility services and to attract the interest and the active engagement of local and regional decision-makers.

SMARTA-NET supports local authorities in developing sustainable mobility and transport solutions, as well as, in stimulating policy debate at national and European level by proposing planning and governance recommendations.
