Competitiveness, transition and resilience: MemEx to lead a study on the future European Ports Strategy

MemEx has recently been awarded, as leader of a consortium including CE Delft and CERTH, a tender from the European Parliament – TRAN Committee (Transport and Tourism) for the development of a study on the future European Ports Strategy.
The project aims to provide an in-depth assessment of the competitiveness of European ports, while addressing the key challenges currently affecting the port sector in a rapidly evolving international context. The study will focus on strategic topics such as security, energy and digital transition, infrastructure needs and EU investment priorities, also considering aspects related to the dual-use potential of port infrastructures.
The research and analytical activities will contribute to the definition of recommendations and possible policy directions supporting future European initiatives in the port sector, strengthening the debate on the role of ports in the competitiveness, resilience and sustainability of the European logistics system.
The project also includes a second research stream, which will be developed in a later phase, dedicated to “Railway Interoperability in Ports”. This activity will focus on port-rail integration, infrastructure and operational bottlenecks, and the strengthening of connections with the TEN-T network and major European rail corridors.
Through this project, MemEx further confirms its commitment to supporting European institutions and stakeholders in the development of strategies and tools for more efficient, resilient and sustainable mobility and logistics systems.
